The DJ / VDJ Program at Imani Music School is designed for individuals who want to master the art of mixing, live performance, digital music manipulation and event entertainment. Suitable for absolute beginners, aspiring club DJs, church media personnel, radio hosts, live entertainers or content creators, the program covers both audio (DJ) and video mixing (VDJ) techniques using professional industry-standard equipment.
Training begins with an introduction to DJ equipment and software interfaces, including controllers, turntables, mixers, headphones, cue systems and performance pads. Learners are taught song structure awareness, understanding intros, verses, choruses and breakdowns—essential for seamless transitions. Early exercises cover beat matching, tempo adjustment, crossfader control and basic fade mixing between tracks.
As students progress, they explore genre-based transitions such as Reggae cuts, Afrobeat loop transitions, EDM build-ups, Hip-Hop scratching and Gospel praise break sequencing. Advanced methods such as EQ blending, filter sweeps, live remixing, looping, cue juggling and drop scheduling prepare learners for real-stage performance. VDJ modules include synchronizing video visuals with music, logo branding and LED screen mapping for stage events.
Students are also trained in event management skills, including playlist curation, client coordination, microphone hosting and crowd reading. Those interested in radio or online content learn how to prepare recorded DJ sets, mixtapes or live-streamed performances for platforms such as YouTube, Mixcloud, TikTok and church livestream systems.
Upon completion, graduates possess the skills to perform at weddings, concerts, clubs, corporate events, church services and media broadcasts or operate independently as freelance DJs.
