The Music Production Program at Imani Music School is designed for aspiring producers, songwriters, sound engineers, vocal arrangers, DJs, and content creators seeking to master the modern tools of digital music creation. Whether a learner is entering with zero technical background or already experimenting with beats and recording software, the program offers a structured pathway from foundational audio concepts to full professional output.
Training begins with an introduction to the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), where students learn to navigate software such as FL Studio, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, or Pro Tools depending on their chosen track. Early modules focus on core production principles: understanding tempo and time signatures, drum sequencing, chord layering, basic sound design, and loop-based arrangement. Students are taught how to construct beats, build harmonic progressions, and work with MIDI controllers and sample libraries.
As learners progress, emphasis shifts toward refining sonic quality. Modules cover vocal recording techniques, microphone placement, equalization (EQ), compression, effects processing, and automation. Students learn how to balance frequencies across a mix, eliminate noise, and enhance clarity across instruments and vocals. Creative elements such as synth programming, filter manipulation, and transition effects are introduced to develop signature sound identity.
Advanced learners are trained in full track development from concept to completion. This includes structuring intros, verses, choruses, and breakdowns, as well as handling multi-layered production sessions. Specialized classes explore genre-specific techniques covering Afrobeats, Gospel, Hip-Hop, House, EDM, Bongo Flava, Pop, and Film Scoring. Students also learn how to collaborate with vocalists, manage recording sessions, and export industry-ready masters.
Business and distribution modules introduce learners to music publishing, copyright basics, monetization strategies, and uploading to platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. Those interested in radio or live performance engineering also receive exposure to PA setup, live mixing desks, and DJ integration.
Every student completes the program with a professional portfolio of original productions, remixes, or commercial-level soundtracks depending on their specialization.
The course is structured into modular phases, so students can progress at their own pace. On average:
Fast-track learners complete it in 3–4 months (full-time schedule)
Standard learners take 6–8 months with part-time classes (1–2 sessions weekly)
Those who add Artist Development & Portfolio Building may continue up to 9–12 months
Each stage covers a key area of music production, including beat making, recording, arrangement, mixing, and mastering, with the option to specialise in your preferred genre.
A personal laptop is recommended but not required for initial lessons. The school provides access to production workstations. Guidance is offered on affordable equipment and software purchasing.
Instruction includes a broad range of modern genres such as Afrobeats, Hip-Hop, Gospel, House, EDM, Pop, Reggae, and Film Score Production. Students may specialize based on preference.
